Four P’burg girls’ soccer players earn postseason honors

PRESTONSBURG - Four members of the Prestonsburg High School girls’ soccer team have picked up postseason honors. Sophomore Katie Porter and junior Jenna Little landed on the All-57th District Tournament Team. Two other PHS girls’ soccer players, seniors Catherine Tincher and Caitlin Kidd, collected All-15th Region Tournament honors.

Prestonsburg, under the guidance of head coach Scott Porter, ended the 2012 season 12-11-0 following a loss to eventual champion Lawrence County in the 15th Region Tournament. The Lady Blackcats finished runner-up to Lawrence County in the 57th District. Prestonsburg finished as the district runner-up for the second straight year.

Porter led Prestonsburg in scoring, netting 33 goals. Jackie Kidd kicked in 11 goals and Ally Branham added eight for the Lady Blackcats.

Caitlin Kidd (five goals), Tincher (three goals) and Kaylee Collins (one goal) also scored for the Prestonsburg girls’ soccer team.

Porter paced Prestonsburg with 13 assists. Caitlin Kidd and Jackie Kidd added eight assists each for the Lady Blackcats.

The high-scoring Porter and versatile Little will lead Prestonsburg into the 2013 season. In 2012, Little played multiple positions including goalkeeper.

Tournament host Lawrence County captured the 15th Region title, edging Pikeville 2-1 in the championship game on Tuesday evening.
