PRESTONSBURG – In a brief special-called meeting Thursday afternoon, the Floyd County Fiscal Court put to bed two agenda items that Judge-Executive R.D. “Doc” Marshall said needed to be taken care of now instead of later.

The rush? Marshall said funding made possible following votes at the meeting for senior citizens centers wasn’t something any of the county leaders wanted to put off until the next regular meeting weeks from now.

Payment was made to the Betsy Layne Senior Citizen Center for $10,630, the Wayland Senior Citizen Center for $12,409 and the Mud Creek Senior Citizen Center for $6,923.

Marshall said these funds were simply remaining monies in accounts for these centers.

Also, during the special meeting Thursday, the county approved replacing temporary, seasonal worker Austin Woods with Bertle Bailey at a pay rate of $7.25 an hour.

Bailey will work as a road employee, as did Woods before resigning. Magistrate Jackie Edford Owens said Woods resigned in order to go back to school.
