PIKEVILLE — Coming on the heels of an event in Bell County last weekend, organizers are hoping to bring coal miners, their families and those who support them together next month, hand in hand, lined up across the state’s largest county.

“Hands Across Pike County” will take place Oct. 13, along U.S. 23.

Organizers are hoping to bring together thousands of people to stand with hands locked alongside U.S. 23, beginning at the Floyd County line and extending all the way to Buckley’s Creek, at the intersection of U.S. 23 and U.S. 119, and then to the West Virginia state line. The event is planned to begin at 2 p.m. and last for an hour.

The event is being organized by a group calling itself “United for Coal.”
