MATEWAN, W.Va. – Prestonsburg secured an early advantage Friday night and pulled away in the second half in a road game against Matewan, a former Class A power from West Virginia. The Blackcats outscored Matewan in each quarter en route to a convincing 54-14 win.

Prestonsburg entered intermission out in front 21-8. The Blackcats put the game completely out of Matewan’s reach in the third quarter, outscoring the host team 26-0.

Prestonsburg senior quarterback Michael Burchett aired it out against Matewan. Burchett completed 13-of-21 passes for 256 yards and four touchdowns.

The Prestonsburg signal-caller hooked up with four different different receivers. Blackburn hauled in four catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore Joseph Jamerson made a game-high six catches for 80 yards and one touchdown.

Josh Craynon also hauled in a scoring catch for the Blackcats.

Prestonsburg rushed 20 times for 53 yards. Craynon led the Blackcat rushing effort, finishing with 32 yards via six carries.

Austin McKinney recorded a team-high 13 tackles for the Blackcats. McKinney made four tackles for losses. Trevor Stovall recorded 11 tackles and Craynon added 10.

Craynon was particularly tough on the Matewan passing game as he intercepted two Tiger passes.

Prestonsburg will host district rival Morgan County for Homecoming this Friday night. Kickoff for the Prestonsburg-Morgan County game is set for 7:30 p.m.
