BELFRY - Prestonsburg suffered its second straight loss Friday night at CAM Stadium. Host Belfry gradually pulled away to defeat Prestonsburg 53-6.
Belfry improved to 2-1 after posting the win.
The Pirates, who had an extra week to prepare for the Blackcats, returned to the win column following a 20-point loss to Henry Clay. Belfry clicked offensively throughout its latest outing.
Prestonsburg dropped to 2-2.
The Blackcats were forced to play from behind throughout the rivalry game. Belfry scored first and never trailed. The Pirates packed a 7-0 lead out of the opening quarter and led 20-6 at halftime.
Belfry pulled away in the second half. The Pirates outscored Prestonsburg 26-0 in the third quarter.
Justin Johnson led the Belfry offense. Johnson rushed 13 times for 166 yards and four touchdowns.
Trenity Carr and Keaton Taylor rushed for a touchdown each for the Pirates.
Belfry quarterback Sani Warren completed three-of-six passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns.
Carr and Taylor each hauled in a touchdown reception for the Pirates.
Prestonsburg quarterback Jarredd Jarrell completed 10-of-25 passes for 168 yards and one touchdown.
Grant Anderson was on the receiving end of Jarrell’s scoring toss, hauling in a 65-yard touchdown pass.
Prestonsburg was forced to punt five times during the non-district matchup.
Class 2A, District 8 favorite Prestonsburg will be back on the field this Friday night, hosting Pike County Central at Josh Francis Field/Blackcat Stadium.
