PRESTONSBURG - Sophomore quarterback Jarredd Jarrell scored from three yards and added the two-point conversion run late in the fourth quarter as host Prestonsburg, clad in red and black-camouflaged jerseys, battled back for a 27-24 come-from-behind win over Perry County Central Friday night at the newly-turfed Josh Francis Field.
Senior Bryson Williams rushed for two touchdowns junior Grant Anderson hauled in a 17-yard scoring reception for the Blackcats.
In his debut at quarterback, Jarrell completed 13-of-23 passes for 177 yards and one touchdown.
As a team, Prestonsburg rushed 32 times for 77 yards and three touchdowns.
Visiting Perry County Central led at the end of each of the first three quarters. Saving its best for last, Prestonsburg outscored Perry County Central 14-0 in the final quarter.
Perry County Central packed a 12-0 lead out of the first quarter and led 18-7 at halftime.
Williams put Prestonsburg on the scoreboard in the second quarter, reaching the endzone on a 5-yard run.
Prestonsburg and Perry County Central swapped a touchdown in the third quarter.
The determined Blackcats owned the fourth quarter, holding Perry County Central scoreless and punching two touchdowns in the endzone for the comeback victory.
Defensively, Adam Griffith led Prestonsburg with 10 tackles. Cody Jarrell and Aaron Griffith followed with seven tackles apiece. Kinsey VanDine had five tackles while Williams and B.J. Holliday registered four apiece. Cody Jarrell and Derek Newsome each had one sack. Holliday and Seth Marcum each had a half-sack.
Austin Pray paced Perry County offensively, rushing 23 times for 161 yards and two touchdowns.
Now, Prestonsburg will turn its focus to Sheldon Clark. The Blackcats will host longtime rival Sheldon Clark this Friday night.
Perry County Central (0-1) will host Johnson Central.
Kickoff for both of the upcoming games is set for 7:30 p.m.
