Tournament host Betsy Layne outlasted Allen Central and won the 15th Region All “A” Classic championship.
Betsy Layne endured a slow start in the first game. The Ladycats owned an 18-15 lead before Allen Central battled back and prevailed 25-23. Following the first set, Betsy Layne fought back and won back-to-back games, toppling the Rebels 25-12, 25-14.
“I wasn’t upset with the first game loss – we started off a little slow but we fought back to make it a game,” Betsy Layne Coach Christina Crase commented. “We didn’t stop fighting. I was very proud of my girls for that!”
The Ladycats came out ready to play the last two games.
“I am very proud of all my players, they played a great match,” Crase confided. “I can’t really single out a player or players who stepped up because I feel all the girls stepped up to the challenge and played a crucial role in winning the match. They deserved it and I am so proud of them!”
Freshman Allie Meade was one of the leaders for the Betsy Layne volleyball team. Meade registered two aces, nine digs and six kills for the Lady Cats. Senior Keleigh Wagner notched 10 digs, four kills and one assist for Betsy Layne in the victory. Other leading performers for Betsy Layne in the 15th Region All “A” Classic championship match were Savannah Meade (three aces, three digs), Audri Ray (seven blocks, two digs, four kills), Taylor Watkins (eight digs, one block, seven kills), Cecelia Ray (one ace, one dig, 15 assists), Katie Williams (one dig, three assists), Paige Watkins (three digs) and Amanda Newsome (one dig).
