EASTERN - The Allen Central High School volleyball program will host its annual preseason invitational tournament/referee clinic on Saturday at J.E. Campbell Arena. All matches will be played at Allen Central’s home gym.
Allen Central is the reigning 15th Region champion. Veteran head coach Larry Maynard guides the Rebels.
The pre-season volleyball tournament/referee clinic will consist of 12 area teams. Each squad will play two matches. An 11-minute junior varsity set will be played between two 12-minute varsity sets, for a total of 35 playing minutes per match. Each set’s score (varsity and junior varsity) will determine the results for placement in a division. A new match is scheduled to start every 40 minutes. Tournament play will be in accordance with standard Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) rules. However, rally scoring will be used. The tiebreaker set is slated for one minute. Each team will have only one timeout per set and one minute between the varsity and junior varsity change.
The division championship team will receive a team plaque. Tournament/clinic T-shirts will be sold for $15 each during the tournament.
The preseason invitational tournament/referee clinic counts as only one scrimmage.
Teams scheduled to compete in the event are host Allen Central, Betsy Layne, Paintsville, Perry Central, Pike Central, Phelps, Sheldon Clark, Pikeville Johnson Central, Belfry, Piarist and East Ridge.
