PIKEVILLE - In an All-Floyd County championship match in the 15th Region All “A” Classic at the T.W. Oliver Memorial Gymnasium Thursday night, defending champion Allen Central swept Betsy Layne 2-0 (25-16, 25-23) to claim its sixth All ‘A’ championship since 2006, the first year a small-school regional tournament was held.
The Rebels improved to 10-3 after registering the win.
Betsy Layne slipped to 11-5 after suffering the loss.
The Rebels are scheduled to host Betsy Layne Wednesday evening at J.E. Campbell Arena.
Under the guidance of veteran head coach Larry Maynard, Allen Central has now won six out of the seven 15th Region All “A” Classic volleyball tournaments.
Katie Kendrick, who tallied a team-high 11 kills and four blocks, led the Rebels. Outside Hitter Rachel Moore added four kills and eight digs in Allen Central’s championship win.
Libero DeShea Elliott delivered eight digs for the Rebels.
Setter Courtney Hodge dished out 17 assists and posted three service aces as Allen Central captured another 15th Region All “A” Classic title.
Allen Central will face 11th Region champion Lexington Christian at the Mid-American Volleyball Association’s Volleyball Complex in Louisville on Saturday, Sept. 15 in the opening round of the All “A” Classic statewide tournament.
