15th Region Volleyball Tournament: Rebels oust Pike Central

BUCKLEYS CREEK - Allen Central blanked Pike County Central 3-0 in the opening round of the 15th Region Volleyball Tournament on the Hawks’ home court Monday evening.

The Rebels took back-to-back-to-back sets, winning 25-7, 25-7, 25-16 to advance to face Pikeville in the semifinals.

Allen Central, the champion out of the 58th District, registered 44 kills while hitting .488. Courtney Hodge led a balanced Allen Central attack, setting up 33 kills to compliment three kills and a trio of service aces. Ciara Jones pounded in 12 kills to pace the Rebels and slammed in four service aces. Katie Kendrick and Laken Tackett smacked in nine kills each and Rachel Moore added eight. Defensively, Hodge dug up seven and DeShea Elliott tallied five scoops. Elliott led the team with five service aces. Kendrick logged three blocks while Tackett added one. Sarah Grindrod also had a block, pitched in three kills and set up a kill in Allen Central’s win.

In the other opening round match, Pikeville pounded Paintsville 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-13). Allen Central will play Pikeville at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the semifinals of the 15th Region Tournament.
