EASTERN - In Allen Central’s annual preseason high school volleyball event, much-improved Prestonsburg claimed the Blue Flight win with victories over Lawrence County and Paintsville and achieving a 10 point margin of victory over Johnson Central. Former University of Pikeville standout Kristal Allen is the new head coach of the Prestonsburg High School volleyball team. Allen, who has been serving as an assistant coach on the Betsy Layne High School girls’ basketball staff, inherited a Prestonsburg volleyball team that compiled a 4-17 overall record in 2013. She replaced Jonni Raines as the head coach of the Prestonsburg volleyball squad.

Prior to playing at the University of Pikeville, Allen excelled in both volleyball and basketball at nearby Betsy Layne High School.

Last season, Piarist School eliminated Prestonsburg from the postseason, defeating the Lady Blackcats 3-1 in the opening round of the 58th District Volleyball Tournament at the Prestonsburg High School Fieldhouse.
