COLUMBIA - Five Mid-South Conference teams are ranked in the NAIA Football Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll, NAIA officials announced on Monday.
Cumberlands leads the quintet as the Patriots check in at No. 4 in the preseason poll. Cumberlands - who completed a perfect regular season in 2013 and played for the national championship - received 306 voting points from the national raters.
Faulkner (Ala.) opens 2014 at No. 10 after receiving 225 voting points while Georgetown begins the season at No. 12 after picking up 205 voting points.
Lindsey Wilson and Cumberland (Tenn.) are No. 18 and No. 25 respectively in the national poll. The Blue Raiders received 123 voting points while the Bulldogs garnered 27 voting points.
Reinhardt (Ga.) is one of three teams just outside the poll but still receiving voting points. The Eagles received 13 voting points from the national raters.
Defending national champion Grand View (Iowa) sits atop the poll with 340 voting points and all 15 first-place votes. Carroll (Mont.) is No. 2 with 322 voting points followed by Morningside (Iowa) at No. 3 with 308 voting points.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and Independents.
The first regular season poll is scheduled to be released on Monday, Sept. 15.
