PRESTONSBURG - The Prestonsburg High School football program will hold its annual media day on Sunday (Aug. 3) at 6 p.m. at Josh Francis Field/Blackcat Stadium.


Fresh off an impressive postseason run, Prestonsburg returns nearly all of its starters and is poised to contend for a state title.


After turning around its 2013 season and finishing runner-up in Class 2A, Region 4, Prestonsburg regained the label of one of the state’s top Class 2A teams. The Blackcats will enter the 2014 season as one of the top contenders for the Class 2A state championship.


Prestonsburg will kick off the 2014 season at Pikeville on Aug. 22. Longtime rivals, Prestonsburg and Pikeville will hook up in a non-district battle.


The Blackcats will entertain Sheldon Clark in a home opener on Aug. 29. Sheldon Clark and Prestonsburg will meet in another non-district clash.


Prestonsburg has additional away games on its 2014 schedule versus Clay County, Hazard, Shelby Valley, Leslie County and Lawrence County.


The Blackcats will host Powell County, Pike County Central and Betsy Layne for additional home games.


Veteran head coach John DeRossett is poised to guide the Prestonsburg football team. DeRossett is the winningest head coach in the Prestonsburg football program’s history.
