LICK CREEK - Kenneth O’Quinn has been named the new head coach of the East Ridge High School football program. O’Quinn is a former assistant coach on the East Ridge and Elkhorn City coaching staffs. He replaces Brad Allen at the helm of the program. Allen spent six seasons as the head coach of the Warriors.
After stepping out of district competition, East Ridge compiled a 6-4 record in 2013. The Warriors will join Class 2A, District 8 in 2015. The realigned Class 2A, District 8 will feature East Ridge, Allen Central, Betsy Layne, Leslie County, Prestonsburg and Shelby Valley.
East Ridge’s 2013 schedule features games versus opponents from Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia. The Warriors registered a 3-2 record against out-of-state opponents.
East Ridge won four of its first five games in 2013. The Warriors posted wins over Allen Central, Shelby Valley, Twin Valley (Va.), Phelps, Tug Valley (Va.) and South Floyd. East Ridge dropped games to Hurley (Va.), Fairview, Grundy (Va.) and Jackson County during the 2013 season.
Senior Barry Young (QB/DB), Caleb Skeans (FB/LB) and Michael Fields (RB/DE) are among the top players back for the Warriors.
