RICHMOND – Eastern Kentucky University announced the hiring of Beth Bruner as the head cheerleading coach Monday.
“I am very grateful for this opportunity,” Bruner said. “I am ready to partner with the administration to create a dynamic and energetic program that will lead the crowd at athletic events, promote school spirit on campus and the community and compete on a level that will bring national distinction to the university. I am very excited for the future of EKU cheerleading.”
Bruner comes from Somerset High School, where she was the varsity cheer coach for 14 years. While there, Bruner led the cheerleading squad to two state titles and 10 Top-5 finishes at the Kentucky State-at-Large competition. Under Bruner’s direction, the varsity squad also tallied 11 Regional titles and six UCA Bluegrass Region championships.
Bruner guided the squad to 10 Top-10 finishes at UCA Nationals and 12 All ‘A’ State titles. During her tenure at Somerset, Bruner also served as a KAPOS State-at-Large board member.
Prior to Somerset High School, Bruner was the Eastside High School Varsity Coach in Greenville, S.C. Bruner guided the Eastside squad to three state titles. Bruner was nominated for the South Carolina Coach of the Year in 2000. Collectively, Bruner has over 23 years of cheerleading coaching experience.
Bruner earned a law degree from the University of Kentucky in 1995 and graduated from Transylvania University with a B.A. in psychology and a minor in business.
