PIKEVILLE – University of Pikeville women’s soccer coach Gary Warford released his team’s 2014 schedule on Tuesday. The 19-game slate includes 10 home dates at the Bob Amos Soccer Complex.
The Bears, who finished 7-8-1 overall with a 1-7-1 mark in the Mid-South Conference last season, open the 2014 campaign on Aug. 23 at Berea, followed by another road trip on Sept. 2 to Union in Barbourville.
UPIKE’s home opener is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET on Sept. 4 against Salem International (W. Va.). A trip to Bryan in Dayton, Tenn., follows two days later before the Bears go on a four-game home stand at Bob Amos.
First up in that streak of contests is the MSC opener on Sept. 13 against St. Catharine, followed by games on Sept. 18 against Hiwassee (Tenn.), Sept. 20 against Cincinnati Christian and Sept. 25 against Warren Wilson (N.C.).
The season finale on Nov. 1 pits the Bears at home against Georgetown with the MSC Tournament to begin the following week.
As always, UPIKE will be tested within the MSC.
Two teams on the 2014 schedule advanced to the 2013 NAIA National Championship and both come from the league with games at home against Cumberland (Tenn.) on Oct. 4 and at Lindsey Wilson on Oct. 19. Lindsey Wilson’s season ended in the national semifinals.
Plenty of talent returns for UPIKE this season, including Second Team All-MSC goalkeeper Chelsea Schulte and the top-two leading goal scorers Kayla Scott (9) and Carmen Koster (5).
