PIKEVILLE – It was Dudley Hilton’s third season as head coach of the University of Pikeville football team, and it got started with a bang as the Bears went on the road to beat NCAA Div. I FCS Morehead State 13-10 to open the 2013 season.
That program-first win over a DI opponent ranks third on UPIKE Athletics’ Top-10 Moments of the 2013-14 list.
While the Bears would prove to have plenty of firepower through the air during the season, it was the combined rushing attack of Marquis Terrell and Seth Millar that proved the difference against the Eagles. Terrell finished with 108 yards rushing and Miller added 100 to lead the offense.
It was also a big night for the UPIKE defense as it limited a Morehead State attack that averaged over 40 points per game the previous season to just 10 on its home field.
The Bears trailed 10-7 with less than three minutes to play, but Millar capped off a late drive with a 23-yard scamper into the end zone to put UPIKE in the lead for good.
