PIKEVILLE – After sending in a video performance, the University of Pikeville dance team qualified for its first trip to the National Dance Association National Championships where it finished fourth in its division in Daytona Beach, Fla., last April. That historic moment for the program ranks sixth in the UPIKE Athletics Top-10 moments of 2013-14.
Head coach Jilleyn Darby is entering her third season with the Bears after being hired in May of 2012 and has already improved the group enough to compete on a national stage. While in Daytona Beach, UPIKE competed in the NAIA Small-Team Performance segment of the NDA event.
UPIKE was one of six teams to make it past the opening round before finishing fourth in the finals. Darby and her team hope to make the journey to Florida a regular event.
