HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Johnson Central High School graduate Shane Hall has left the Marshall University. Hall, a Prestonsburg native, won’t play basketball at the school.
A former Mr. Basketball candidate, Hall held offers from several Division I schools before signing with Marshall in November.
Former Marshall head coach Tom Herrion signed Hall. Herrion, however, resigned in March. New Marshall head coach Dan D’Antoni started his reign over the Thundering Herd men’s basketball program in April.
D’Antoni, the older brother of Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni, has served as an NBA assistant coach for the past nine seasons. He was a member of the Phoenix Suns’ staff from 2005-06 through 2007-08. He spent four seasons on the New York Knicks’ staff, then served as an assistant on the Los Angeles Lakers’ staff for the past two seasons.
During his career, D’Antoni, 66, also served as the head coach of the Knicks’ and Lakers’ NBA Summer League teams.
It is not known at this time if Hall will play basketball at another school during the upcoming season.
As a senior, Hall averaged 17.4 points, 10.7 rebounds and 4.7 blocks per game for the Golden Eagles.
Hall led Johnson Central to three straight 15th Region titles. The Hall-led Golden Eagles reached the state quarterfinals earlier in the year.
