BETSY LAYNE - For the second straight season, Betsy Layne will meet familiar foe Phelps in the Pike County Bowl. Betsy Layne’s schedule for the 2014 football season has been finalized and released. The Bobcats will meet Phelps in the Pike County Bowl on Aug. 29. Kickoff for the Pike County Bowl matchup is set for 8 p.m.

Besides the neutral site game, Betsy Layne has home contests scheduled against Allen Central, South Floyd, Leslie County, Shelby Valley and Jenkins.

The Bobcats are slated to visit Sheldon Clark, Knott County Central, Prestonsburg and Magoffin County for away games.

Betsy Layne is coming off of one of its best seasons in school history. The Bobcats concluded the 20-14 season 9-2. A loss to Somerset in the opening round of the Class 3A State Playoffs ended Betsy Layne’s latest campaign.

Betsy Layne, under the direction of head coach Jon Parsons, outscored opponents 480-113 last season.

The Bobcats lost quarterback Dylan Hamilton (2,852 yards, 34 touchdowns), top rusher Houston Hall (622 yards, nine touchdowns) and linebacker Blake Spencer as 10 seniors moved on via graduation.

But there’s some experienced players headed back for the Bobcats.

After leading Betsy Layne in receiving, senior Peyton Case (1,012 yards, 13 touchdowns receiving) is expected to make the move to quarterback.

In addition to Case, Dustin Rogers (WR/DB, Sr.), Lako Daniels (HB/LB/DE, Sr.), Blake Rose (OL/DL, Sr.), Jonathan Brock (HB/LB/DE, Sr.) and Nathan Collum (RB/DB, So.) return for the Bobcats.
