PRESTONSBURG - A group of Prestonsburg Lady Blackcats gave back late last week. The Prestonsburg High School girls’ basketball team raised $250 for the American Cancer Society and participated in the Relay for Life held at Big Sandy Community and Technical College on Friday.

“We are really proud of our girls for giving back and helping fight for a cure,” Prestonsburg Coach Brandon Gearheart said. “Cancer has touched us all and it’s something we were really proud to be a part of. Coach Cathy Layne really led the efforts and we had several parents who helped and joined in to make for a wonderful evening. My girls got a chance to cheer on survivors has they walked their victory lap and show them love and support and that was a really special moment for all of us. I want these girls to understand what you do for others in your time on earth is really what matters at the end of the day. They really enjoyed it.”

The Lady Blackcats also won the “Rising Star” award given by the Relay for Life Committee.
