PIKEVILLE – University of Pikeville junior softball student-athletes Brittany Adams and Sarah Kinney were named 2014 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, officials from the national office announced on Wednesday.
In order to be nominated by an institution’s head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved at least junior academic status.
Pikeville has placed two players on the scholar-athlete list for the last seven seasons.
Kinney played in 22 games this season, including 24 starts, while putting together a .190 batting average with a home run, eight RBIs, three doubles and a triple. An Allen Central High School graduate, Kinney has contributed for the UPIKE softball program throughout her career.
Including all NAIA institutions, 297 softball student-athletes received the scholar-athlete honor this season.
