PRESTONSBURG - The Prestonsburg Blackcats wouldn’t be denied their fourth straight 58th District baseball title. On Thursday night, Prestonsburg managed to edged top seed Allen Central 5-4 in the 58th District championship game.
With the win, defending 15th Region champion Prestonsburg improved to 17-14.
As a result of the loss, Allen Central dropped to 23-11.
On the mound, Prestonsburg pitcher Travis Powers earned the win. Powell threw 12 first pitch strikes and recorded two strikeouts
The Rebels were limited to three hits in the setback.
Allen Central pitcher Tanner Hamilton took the loss. Hamilton registered three strikeouts in the short effort.
Prestonsburg scored first and never trailed. The Blackcats scored one run in each of the first two innings after a two-run top half of the third inning, led 4-0 before Allen Central arrived on the scoreboard.
Allen Central plated its first run in the bottomn half of the third inning. Prior to falling short, Allen Central scored one run in four of its final five at-bats.
The Rebels scored their final run in the bottom half of the seventh inning.
Offensively, Prestonsburg outhit Allen Central 10-3.
Hunter Brown led Prestonsburg with three hits.
Jarrin Hall added two bits and one RBI for the Blackcats in the win.
Scott Stapleton also supplied Prestonsburg with an RBI in the district championship-clinching victory.
Prestonsburg won despite committing five errors.
Junior Handshoe had two of Allen Central’s three hits,
Trey Aldrich drove in one run for the Rebels.
Allen Central committed two errors.
Both Prestonsburg and Allen Central advanced to the 15th Region Softball Tournament.
