One of the most important on-field relationships in Little League is between coaches and their players. One of the most important relationships off the field is between coaches and parents. In order to help both Little League Coaches and Little League Parents, Little League and Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) have partnered to develop two, free quick-courses to provide a framework to develop a positive coach-parent partnership and to be a positive sports parent from the stands.

“The vast majority of Little League coaches and parents are doing it the right way. They focus on their kids’ enjoyment of the game and the overall Little League experience,” said Nick Caringi, Little League Senior Director of Operations and Education. “Little League is working to give valuable resources to all our volunteers and parents to help them understand their responsibility in creating a positive environment for the millions of Little Leaguers from around the world to learn the important lessons of teamwork, dedication and hard work. These courses that PCA has developed will give the adults in our program the tools to help give Little Leaguers the best experience during their Little League career.”

The Little League Double-Goal Coach Quick-Course is an interactive course that provides specific tips and techniques from leading researchers in sports and educational psychology. The course introduces the PCA principles of Honoring the Game, using the “ELM Tree” of Mastery to Redefine “Winner,” and Filling Emotional Tanks, with sample tools for coaches to improve their athletes on and off the field. Upon completion of the Little League Double-Goal Coach workshop, coaches will understand what it means to both win and teach life lessons through youth sports.

The Little League Second-Goal Parent online course includes videos from championship coaches and players like Dusty Baker. The course provides interactive tips and techniques for parents to use in talking with their children on game day, developing a productive parent-coach relationship and becoming effective and positive supporters on the sidelines.

Positive Coaching Alliance also has a full online training program that takes approximately 90-minutes to complete. More information on the full online training program can be found at: positivecoach.org/our-work/online-courses.

“Little League and PCA have been dedicated partners for nearly 10 years,” said Jim Thompson, PCA Founder and Chief Executive Officer. “We are excited to unveil these new quick-courses to educate even more Little League Coaches and Little League Parents about the on-field and off-field benefits of creating a well-rounded youth sporting experience.”
