PRESTONSBURG - Defending champion Prestonsburg is headed back to the 15th Region Tournament. The Blackcats punched their regional tournament ticket with a 12-2 win over South Floyd on Wednesday night at StoneCrest.
Three Prestonsburg pitchers worked in the district tournament game versus South Floyd.
Bryce Tucker started on the mound for the Blackcats. After working two innings, Reece Ison took over. Following a two inning stint from Ison, Blade Slone for the Blackcats.
South Floyd pitcher Hunter Johnson took the loss.
South Floyd struck first, scoring two runs in the top half of the first inning. The Raiders owned the two-run lead until the top half of the third inning when Prestonsburg plated three runs.
The Blackcats scored nine runs over their last three at-bats to post the 10-run win in six innings.
At the plate for the Blackcats, leadoff hitter Grant Anderson just missed hitting for the cycle. Anderson was 3-for-4 with a single, a double and a triple.
Reece Ison, Aaron Foley and Grant Martin added two hits apiece for the Blackcats in the win.
Prestonsburg improved to 16-14 after posting the win.
With the loss, South Floyd ended its season 5-20.
Prestonsburg was facing Allen Central in the district championship game at press time on Thursday night. The 58th District championship game ended too late to make this edition.
