PRESTONSBURG - The Prestonsburg Lady Blackcats defeated the Allen Central Lady Rebels 17-2 in four innings on Monday night to advance to the 58th District Softball Tournament title game.
Prestonsburg pitcher Haley Howell earned the win. Howell registered five strikeouts.
Allen Central pitcher Hannah Sword took the loss.
The Lady Rebels scored two runs in the top half of the first inning. Prestonsburg, however, answered quickly, plating five runs in the home half of the first inning to lead 5-2.
The Lady Blackcats added three more runs in the second inning to lead 8-2.
After having one runner reach base in the second inning, Allen Central’s batting order was retired in order in the third.
Finishing strong, Prestonsbuirg plated nine runs in the fourth inning to force the game to end via the KHSAA’s Mercy Rule.
Howell, Allyson DeRossett and Kate Rose scored three runs apiece for the Lady Blackcats.
Elizabeth Campbell led Prestonsburg with four hits, including a double.
Rose added three hits for the Lady Blackcats.
Kierra Shelton and Jenna Little crossed home plate for two runs each for the Lady Blackcats.
Offensively for Allen Central, Elizabeth Prater smacked a home run in the first inning.
Leadoff hitter Emlee Adams helped to lead Allen Central batters with two singles.
Martin added a single for the Lady Rebels.
With the win, Prestonsburg improved to 13-11.
As a result of the season-ending loss, Allen Central slipped to 3-20.
