DRIFT - Allen Central dropped its second one-run decision in three games earlier in the week. Visiting Belfry managed to edge Allen Central 7-6 in eight innings at Drift Park Monday.
Belfry pitcher Keaton Taylor earned the win. Pitching against a hot-hitting Allen Central baseball team, Taylor recorded nine strikeouts in four innings.
Allen Central pitcher Tanner Hamilton took the loss. Hamilton registered six strikeouts in four innings as part of his latest pitching appearance.
Allen Central and Belfry hooked up in a matchup between two of the 15th Region’s top baseball squads.
With the win, Belfry improved to 23-11.
Following the loss, Allen Central slipped to 22-10.
Belfry scored a run in the top half of the eighth inning and held host Allen Central scoreless during the home portion of the extra frame to claim the win.
The Pirates plated seven runs on nine hits in the late-season game.
After the first inning ended with the two teams tied 1-1, Allen Central pushed across two runs in the second inning to lead 3-1.
Belfry, however, battled back. The Pirates outscored Allen Central 5-3 in an offensive heavy fifth inning.
Neither team could manufacture another run until Belfry scored in the top half of the eighth inning and regained the lead.
At the plate, Taylor and Joey Duty helped to lead Belfry with two hits apiece. Zac Fields delivered a game-high three RBIs for the Pirates.
Offensively for Allen Central, Trey Aldrich collected two hits and a pair of RBIs.
Allen Central outhit Belfry 11-9 in the non-district contest.
The Rebels will compete in the 58th District Tournament next week.
