MOREHEAD - Morehead State University is home to a new school record. MSU sophomore Jesse Moreno, who broke the school 5,000-meter track record earlier this season, re-established his name on the list by running a 14:35.75 time at the Virginia Challenge Saturday.
A Riverside, Ohio, native, Moreno had originally set the mark by running a 14:42.74 at the Releigh Relays this season. Senior teammate Chase Ratliff eclipsed that figure with a 14:40.91 time at the Bluegrass Invitational. Moreno finished second at UVA in a field of 12 runners, besting Ratliff’s time by five seconds.
The Eagles also had two other runners competing at UVA this weekend. Junior Desmond Bell finished 16th in the 800-meter event with a time of 1:51.78. For the Eagle women, sophomore Alex Morris covered the 5K loop in 18:20.16.
Morehead State will have a select group of athletes competing at the Louisville Cardinal Twilight on Friday. MSU is looking to qualify athletes for the NCAA East Regional, set for May 29-31 in Jacksonville, Fa.
