PRESTONSBURG - Junior pitcher Travis Powers pitched a complete game shutout as Prestonsburg beat 58th District rival Betsy Layne 4-0 at StoneCrest on Tuesday night.


With the win, Prestonsburg stopped a two-game losing skid and improved to 11-9 overall and 3-2 in the 58th District.


Following the loss, Betsy Layne fell to 10-10 overall and 1-3 in the district.


Powers allowed allowed six hits and registered three strikeouts.


Betsy Layne senior pitcher Houston Hall limited Prestonsburg to four hits and recorded 11 strikeouts but gave up four runs.


Betsy Layne lost despite outhitting Prestonsburg 6-4.


Defending 15th Region champion Prestonsburg plated one run in four separate innings. The Blackcats, under the direction of head coach Shane Simpkins, owned a four-run advantage at the conclusion of the fifth inning.


Dylan Slone, Jarrin Hall and Hunter Brown each had an RBI for the Blackcats.


Grant Anderson delivered three quality at-bats and Grant Martin added a hit for Prestonsburg in the victory.


James Frasure had three quality at-bats for Betsy Layne in the setback.


Betsy Layne is slated to host Prestonsburg on May 6.
