MOREHEAD - The Morehead State University football team closed out spring practice with an exhibition game on Saturday afternoon at Jayne Stadium. More than 1,500 fans turned out for the contest, which showcased approximately 70 student-athletes.

The day began at 2 p.m. with tailgating. The activities inside the stadium began at 4 with an alumni game. The current players and coaches then hit the field at 5:15. The festivities took place under sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70s.

“Today was a really good day for Morehead State football, on and off the field,” Morehead State Coach Rob Tenyer said. “It was terrific to see so many of our supporters, alumni and incoming recruits. I hope this momentum helps carry us into the fall season.”

The defense posted a 47-23 win over the offense. Traditional scoring, with touchdowns, field goals, conversions and extra points, was used on offense. The defense was awarded seven points for a turnover, three for a three-and-out and two for a safety.

“I thought our defense did a nice job with its execution today,” Tenyer said. “Those young men kept the ball in front of them and didn’t allow any big plays. They did a nice job with our zone game and limited the run. They were flying around and making plays.”

The Blue Team was always on defense. The White Team was always on offense. The game consisted of two 15-mintue quarters and two 10-minute periods. Regular clock rules were used in the first half. A running clock was inserted after intermission.

“I believe we have more depth on the offensive side of the ball this year,” Tenyer added. “I know we are going to move the ball and score points because of what we do. We just need to become more consistent. We need our playmakers to make big plays.”
