PRESTONSBURG - Host Prestonsburg halted a two-game losing skid on Tuesday, edging Belfry 8-7 in a non-district high school softball game between two longtime 15th Region softball rivals.


With the win, Prestonsburg improved to 3-6.


As a result of the loss, Belfry slipped to 5-4.


Prestonsburg senior pitcher Haley Howell earned the win, Helping her cause at the plate from the cleanup spot in the Prestonsburg batting order, Howell scored two runs. Second-place hitter Allyson DeRossett and Kate Rose also scored twice for the Lady Blackcats.


Jenna Little and Manissa Risner added one run each for Prestonsburg in the win.


Prestonsburg owned multiple leads. The Lady Blackcats scored seven runs over the first two innings.


Belfry, however,made the game interesting late. The Lady Pirates outscored Prestonsburg 5-1 but fell short.


The Lady Blackcats were visiting South Floyd on Thursday evening. Results from the South Floyd-Prestonsburg softball game were unavailable at press time.
