HAZARD - After posting a one-run win over Hazard in late-March, Prestonsburg slipped past the Bulldogs’ crosstown rival on Monday. Visiting Prestonsburg managed to work its way back into the win column, edging Perry County Central 5-4.
Prestonsburg improved to 7-3 after posting the win.
Following the loss, Perry County Central fell to 4-3.
Prestonsburg freshman pitcher Scott Stapleton earned the win.
The Blackcats claimed the victory after dropping a game to Sheldon Clark over the weekend. Sheldon Clark beat Prestonsburg 15-13 on Saturday.
Perry County Central sophomore pitcher Evan Hurt suffered the loss.
The Commodores scored first, pushing across one run in the bottom half of the first inning. Perry County Central’s four runs were scattered. The Commodores scored once in four separate plate appearances.
Prestonsburg moved ahead and never trailed again. The Blackcats erupted for four runs in the third inning.
Each team plated one run in the final inning as Perry County Central fell short.
Reece Isom, Hunter Brown and Aaron Foley each had a double for the Blackcats.
Stapleton, Jarin Hall and Grant Martin each had a double for Prestonsburg in the win.
Johnson Central dealt Prestonsburg its second loss in three games on Tuesday, blanking the Blackcats 14-0. Prestonsburg is scheduled to visit Ashland on Friday. First pitch for the Prestonsburg-Ashland baseball game is set for 6 p.m..
