DRIFT - Betsy Layne rolled past 58th District rival South Floyd in the opening round of the 15th Region All “A” Classic, winning 15-2 in five innings on Monday night.

Junior pitcher Peyton Case pitched a two hitter for the Bobcats. Case recorded eight strikeouts.

With the win, Betsy Layne evened its record to 5-5 and advanced to meet Sheldon Clark in the small-school regional tournament.

The Bobcats scored first and never trailed. Betsy Layne plated 15 runs on 14 hits.

Betsy Layne scored two runs in the top half of the opening inning. The Raiders, however, battled back to tie the game, pushing across one run in both the second and third innings.

But Betsy Layne added some distance between itself and South Floyd. The Bobcats scored seven runs in the top half of the fourth inning to lead 9-2.

Stretching its lead out and ultimately forcing the game to end via the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) 10-Run Mercy Rule, Betsy Layne scored six runs in the top half of the fifth inning to set the final score.

Offensively, Dylan Hamilton, Houston Hall and Dustin Tackett led Betsy Layne with two hits apiece. Tackett delivered a game-high three RBIs and James Frasure drove in two runs for the Bobcats.

South Floyd pitcher Hunter Johnson suffered the loss.

The Raiders committed three errors in the setback.

Betsy Layne is scheduled to meet Sheldon Clark in the 15th Region All “A” Classic at 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
