PRESTONSBURG - Leadoff hitter Grant Anderson, the shortstop in the Prestonsburg lineup, reached base and scored in all five of his of his plate appearances as the Blackcats defeated visiting Paintsville 14-11 on Tuesday night (April 1) at StoneCrest Park.


Reigning 15th Region champion Prestonsburg, under the guidance of head coach Shane Simpkins, a Paintsville High School graduate, claimed its fourth straight win, improving to 6-2.


Paintsville had a two-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 6-3 as a result of the loss.


The four first hitters in the Prestonsburg batting order accounted for 11 of the Blackcats’ 14 runs.


Cleanup hitter Hunter Brown belted a three-run home run for the Blackcats in the fifth inning. Brown also had two singles in the hard-fought win.


Prestonsburg pitcher Bryce Tucker earned the win.


Reece Isom started on the mound for the Blackcats.


Paintsville hurler Spencer Taylor suffered the loss.


Kash Daniel earned the start on the hill for the Tigers.


Jarrin Hall, John Cooksey, Aaron Foley, Grant Martin, Dylan Slone, Nick Rowe, Travis Powers and Scott Stapleton also contributed for Prestonsburg in the victory.


Paintsville committed four errors in the loss.


Prestonsburg is scheduled to visit Paintsville on May 5.
