PIKEVILLE – University of Pikeville women’s tennis was on cruise control at home on Saturday, shutting out St. Catharine College 7-0 at Bob Amos Park.


The Bears were perfect in doubles action as Mounia Sami and Thais Bezerra routed Brittany Taylor and Sarah Pascoe 8-0 at the top seed, while second-seeded Shae Criswell and Kennedy King beat Chelsey Landrum and Shelby Rush by the same score.


Pikeville picked up a default win at the No. 5 seed to go up 3-0, followed by four straight-set singles wins to each the shutout.


Top-seeded Sami swept Taylor 6-0, 6-0 and Bezerra cruised past Pascoe at the No. 2 seed by the same score. St. Catharine finally won its first game in singles at the No. 3 spot as King beat Landrum 6-0, 6-1. The closest match of the day came in Michaela Hyden’s 6-3, 6-1 win over Rush at the No. 4 seed.
