PRESTONSBURG - The Prestonsburg Lady Blackcats posted their second straight win on Tuesday, edging the visiting Jackson City Lady Tigers 6-5 in eight innings at StoneCrest Park.
The win allowed Prestonsburg to improve to 2-4.
Jackson City slipped to 3-4 after absorbing the loss.
The Lady Tigers dropped back into the loss column after defeating June Buchanan 14-3 in five innings three nights earlier.
Prestonsburg senior pitcher Haley Howell earned the win.
Jackson City sophomore pitcher Shey Trent was stuck with the loss.
After regulation ended with the two teams tied 5-5, Prestonsburg plated one run in the bottom half of the eighth inning.
Kierra Shelton, batting out of the number two spot in the Prestonsburg hitting order, reached base in four at-bats and scored three runs.
Jenna Little, Allyson DeRossett and Kaylee Collins scored one run apiece. Collins scored the game-winning run in the eighth inning.
Prestonsburg is scheduled to visit Jackson City on Monday.
Knott County Central 3, Prestonsburg 2: Prestonsburg had a two-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday as host Knott County Central pulled out a hard-fought 3-2 win.
In another area high school softball game, visiting Jackson City defeated Allen Central 15-11 in five innings.
