JAMESTOWN – A 10-stroke improvement from its day-one total helped the University of Pikeville men’s golf team hold onto fourth place at the Blue Raider Classic on Tuesday at the Lake Cumberland Golf Club.
Pikeville was right there with the three top teams all day: winner Lindsey Wilson shot 297 for the final round, second-place Cumberland (Tenn.) was at 302, third-place Cumberlands carded a 297 and the Bears were in the mix with a 303.
Falling behind during Monday’s round hurt the chances of a comeback though with UPIKE tallying 313 stokes through the first 18 holes. Will Boyd was the leader on Tuesday, finishing tied for 11th place overall with a score of 152 (77-75).
Boyd was backed up by Casey Castle with a 153 (79-74) to take 14th place and Bradley Litzinger tied for 20th place after carding a 157 (81-76). Samuel McGuire had a two-stroke improvement to finish tied for 22nd with a 158 (80-78) and Cody Walker rounded out Pikeville’s scores with a 161 (77-84).
Playing as an individual, UPIKE’s Kelly Porter tied for 29th place overall with a score of 159 (78-81) which was tied for first among those playing unaffiliated from the team groupings.
The Bears return to action on April 14-15 in the Georgetown Spring Classic at Cherry Blossom Country Club in Georgetown.
