BUCKLEYS CREEK - Betsy Layne fell short on the road on Tuesday night as host Pike County Central plated a run in the bottom half of the 14th inning to win 4-3.
With the win, Pike County Central moved to 2-0.
Following the loss, Betsy Layne dropped to 1-1.
Betsy Layne managed to outhit Pike Central 13-11 in the one-run loss.
Pike County Central struck first, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the first inning.
Betsy Layne, however, answered with one run in the top half of the second inning.
The Hawks extended their lead out to a 3-1 advantage in the bottom half of the sixth inning and looked to be in control of the contest.
But Betsy Layne battled back. The Bobcats pushed across two runs in the top half of the seventh inning to tie the game 3-3.
In a marathon matchup, the two teams remained tied until the bottom half of the 14th inning when Pike Central pushed across the game-winning run, prevailing in walk-off fashion.
On the mound, Cameron Hamilton worked six innings for Pike Central in the hard-fought win. Hamilton threw 15 first pitch strikes.
Also pitching well for the Hawks, Dylan Wright registered a team-high four strikeouts.
Zachary Scroggins led the Pike Central offensive effort with two hits. Another Pike Central batter, Aaron Scott, delivered an RBI.
Peyton Case worked nine innings on the mound for Betsy Layne. Case threw 23 first-pitch strikes and registered six strikeouts.
Houston Hall worked 4.2 innings and notched a game-high seven strikeouts for the Bobcats.
Hall delivered a game-high three hits and two RBI for Betsy Layne in the short effort.
Brandon Akers followed, finishing with two hits and one RBI for the Bobcats, who committed three errors in the loss.
