JACKSON, Tenn. - The Morehead State University men’s golf team posted scores of 293 and 309 on Monday in the first two rounds of the Grover Page Classic at the Jackson Country Club on Monday. The Eagles were ninth out of 12 teams heading into the tournament’s final 18 holes.
Lipscomb (285-282-567) led the field, while Tennessee Tech (290-280-570), host UT Martin (297-287—584), Jackson State (303-293-596) and Northern Kentucky (294-303-597) rounded out the top five. TTU, UTM and MSU are members of the Ohio Valley Conference.
Morehead State sophomore Logan Hogge was tied for eighth out of 78 golfers after two rounds, while classmate Will Branham was knotted for 18th. Hogge tallied rounds of 69 and 75 on Monday, while Branham, a Pikeville High School graduate, turned in a 73 and 75.
Sophomores Brad Newnam (73-77-150), Michael Fehrenbacher (78-82-160) and Brad Martin (89-84-173) were also in Morehead State’s lineup, while freshman Connor Thiel (75-79—154) was playing as an individual for the Eagles.
Tennessee Tech sophomore Adam Cunningham, who collected rounds of 70 and 67, was the individual leader after two rounds. The final round was still being played on Tuesday. The course plays at a par of 72 and yardage of 6,783. More on Morehead State’s season-opening tournament will appear in Friday’s edition.
