BETSY LAYNE - The Betsy Layne Ladycats turned in a solid all-around performance on Senior Night on Wednesday night. Betsy Layne, however, fell short in a bid to pull off an upset bid as preseason 15th Region favorite Magoffin County pulled away to win 61-50.


Magoffin County notched its 10th straight win, claiming a victory for the 14th time in 15 games.


Betsy Layne absorbed its second straight loss, falling for the third time in four outings.


Four of Magoffin County’s five scorers reached double figures. Senior guard Jamie Castle led Magoffin County with a game-high 20 points. Madison Reed scored 15 points, Jazzy Howard netted 12 and Leslee Howard chipped in 10 for the Lady Hornets.


Magoffin County led 34-22 at halftime and maintained a lead over the Ladycats throughout the second half.


Courtney Gullett rounded out the Magoffin County scoring, registering four points for the Lady Hornets.


Katie Tackett led homestanding Betsy Layne with 11 points. Accompanying Tackett in double figures, Kelsi Tackett chipped in 10 points for the Ladycats.


Chloe Johnson and Brandy Morrow narrowly missed double figures, posting nine points apiece for Betsy Layne in the non-district loss.


Emily Kidd scored seven points and Eddi Akers and Alex Sisco added flipped in two apiece for the Ladycats.
