PIKEVILLE - Piarist, South Floyd and Allen Central were all knocked out of the 15th Region All “A” Classic in the opening round Saturday at the East Kentucky Expo Center.

Sheldon Clark, a team under the direction of Floyd County native Tim Rice, limited Piarist School throughout an opening round match. The Lady Cardinals pulled away to beat Piarist 76-47.

South Floyd battled back but fell short in the end as Phelps held on to win 43-42.

The Lady Raiders faced multiple double digit deficits before having a chance to win the game.

Tournament favorite Shelby Valley dashed any hopes Allen Central had of vying for a small-school regional title, toppling the Lady Rebels 65-31.

Shelby Valley and Allen Central entered the tournament ranked first and second, respectively.

Two-time defending champion Magoffin County was over the allowed enrollment and isn’t participating in this year’s All “A” Classic.
