COLUMBIA - Eight Mid-South Conference football student-athletes were named 2013 American Football Coaches Association-National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-American, AFCA officials announced last week.

A total of 25 players from across the NAIA earned first-team honors while another 25 were selected to the second team. The all-American teams are selected by the AFCA-NAIA All-America Committee.

Faulkner (Ala.) senior quarterback Josh Hollingsworth and Belhaven (Miss.) senior offensive lineman Matt Hall earned first-team honors on offense while Georgetown (Ky.) senior linebacker Brock Messina and Bethel (Tenn.) junior defensive back Stony Burns were selected first-team defense.

On the AFCA-NAIA Coaches’ All-American second team is Cumberland (Tenn.) senior offensive lineman A.J. Harmon, Kentucky Christian senior defensive lineman Marvin Newkirk III, Cumberlands (Ky.) senior linebacker Weston Hazelhurst and Faulkner freshman kicker Cameron Golob.

The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. What makes these teams so special is that they are the only ones chosen exclusively by the men who know the players the best - the coaches themselves.
