HI HAT - Visiting Allen Central swept South Floyd on Friday night, defeating opposing squads in boys’ and girls’ basketball games. More on each game follows.
Boys - Allen Central 72, South Floyd 58: Three Allen Central players combined for 58 points as the Rebels defeated host South Floyd 72-58 in a 58th District/Floyd County Conference boys’ basketball game at Raider Arena on Friday night.
Austin Salisbury led Allen Central with a game-high 21 points. Junior Handshoe scored 19 points and Mason Nelson added 18 for the Rebels.
“I thought both teams played very well and with passion,” Allen Central Coach Brad Short commented. “Both teams left it all on the court and that is all you can ask of them.”
Jarred Hamilton scored seven points, Cameron Hamilton netted five and Braxton Tackett tossed in two for the Rebels.
Allen Central is scheduled to host South Floyd Jan. 24.
Girls - Allen Central 60, South Floyd 48: Sara Rife poured in a game-high 32 points as visiting Allen Central defeated South Floyd 60-48 in a 58th District/Floyd County Conference girls’ basketball game at Raider Arena Friday night.
Krista Parsons joined Rife in double figures, finishing with 10 points.
Brooklyn Martin scored eight points and DeShea Elliott added five for the Lady Rebels.
Elizabeth Prater scored on a foul shot in Allen Central’s victory.
The Lady Rebels shot 50 percent (12 of 24) from the foul line en route to the win.
After carrying a hard-fought 25-24 lead into halftime and boasting a two-point advantage at the conclusion of the third quarter, Allen Central pulled away to win in the final period.
Brooke Potter paced South Floyd with 16 points. Leighann Hall and Jessie Tackett added 10 points apiece for the Lady Raiders in the loss.
Taylor Berger (seven points), Sam Helton (two points) and Cheyenne Light (one point) added scoring for South Floyd in the setback.
South Floyd was 14 of 26 from the foul line in the loss.
