PRESTONSBURG – Billie Jean Osborne’s Kentucky Opry will take to the stage at the end of November for their annual Christmas show, and one Junior Pro star would like nothing more than an audience full of people dancing to the sound of her fiddle.

Thirteen-year-old Meghan Bryant, of Martin, a fiddle player for the Junior Pros, is in her first year with the group, after five seasons with another Opry youth group “The Fiddlers.”

Growing up in a musical home, Bryant says she began playing the fiddle when she was seven, so she could join in with her dad.

“Dad plays the banjo, but I always liked the fiddle,” Bryant says.

Bryant is a daughter of Randy Bryant and Jill Dotson-Bryant, and has siblings Emily and Conner Bryant. When she isn’t playing the fiddle, she enjoys playing piano and dancing and has been a student at the University of Pikeville School of Dance since she was 4.

At her core, Bryant says she is an “old-time” fiddle player, but that she was drawn to the Kentucky Opry to learn different styles of music.

“The Junior Pros play different styles of music and I really enjoy learning different musical styles.”

Bryant has competed at the Morehead Old Time Music Festival for four years, placing first three times and second once. However, she says her favorite place to play is at square dances.

“I like to watch people dance while I play,” Bryant said. “It’s fun.”

Created as a training ground for Billie Jean Osborne’s Kentucky Opry, the Junior Pros are a talented and versatile group of young musicians and singers. The Junior Pros will be performing at the Mountain Arts Center, beginning Nov. 29, for Billie Jean Osborne’s Kentucky Opry Christmas. Tickets are on sale now at the ticket office, or order online at www.macarts.com.
