MARTIN – Free workshops for parents and caregivers of children birth to age 5 are being offered at May Valley Elementary, 481 Stephens Branch Road, in Martin.

The Toyota bornlearning Academy (www.uwky.org/bornlearning), in partnership with United Way of Kentucky, teach parents and caregivers of children from prenatal to five years old how to turn everyday moments into learning opportunities. The academies are part of a five year, $1 million investment to establish Toyota bornlearning® Academies at about 70 schools through 2016.

May Valley’s workshops will be offered the second Thursday of the month, beginning Thursday, October 10. The free workshops are from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and include a free family meal. Workshop dates are October 10, November 14, December 12, January 9, February 13, March 13 and April 10. Topics explored include how children learn, nutrition and health, routines and learning on the go, building your child’s language skills and building relationships.

May Valley’s academy launched last year with the help of an $11,500 grant from Toyota’s manufacturing operations in Kentucky.
