UPike invites alumni artists to ‘come home’
PIKEVILLE – The University of Pikeville Weber Gallery and the art faculty are calling for entries for “Coming Home: UPike Alumni Art Show.” The show is open to all alumni of the Training Academy, Junior College, Pikeville College and the University of Pikeville to submit their creative projects for inclusion in the exhibit.
The alumni art show will be open Oct. 7 and will run through Nov. 1.
“Homecoming is an opportunity to reflect on a significant time of our life that has resulted, in part, in who we are today. The alumni art show can provide a broader understanding of the direction alumni have taken, what are they interested in, who have they become. The show will include all kinds of creative endeavors — photography, poetry, painting, sculpture, digital art,” said Pat Kowalok, professor of art at UPike.
Exhibitors are also invited to include a statement about their life at this moment and/or what Pikeville has meant to them.
“The show should reveal the creative growth of our alumni and provide much in the way of building ties for this special community,” Kowalok said.
Entries will be accepted September 20-28. The deadline for entries is noon on September 28. Art specifications include all 2D works on paper, including photography and paintings no larger than five feet and 3D works less than 50 pounds and three feet. All entries must be original works of art by the artist and installation ready. Poetry that is framed and ready to hang may be considered. There is no entry fee but each artist may only submit two entries.
An artists’ reception will be held Oct. 19 from 9-11 a.m. in the Weber Gallery located in Record Memorial Building. For more information, contact Kowalok at email@example.com or Petra Carroll, assistant professor of art, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
