PRESTONSBURG — The Dumas Rescue Car, Truck, and Bike Show is coming back for another year.

The event will run from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 24 at Archer Park. There is a $15 entry fee for participants in the show, but general admission for car lovers is free.

As in years past, the car show will include plenty of food, music, prizes and fun. Most importantly, every penny of the proceeds will go directly to helping rescued animals.

Sheena Wright with Dumas Rescue says that without fundraisers like this one and other donations, the rescue is limited to the out-of-pocket funds that volunteers can spare. That limits the impact the rescue is able to make.

“Every dollar we take in helps us save a life,” Wright says.

She says the sheer number of stray animals in Floyd and surrounding counties remains a significant problem—too much for any one person to handle. Wright says that organized, cooperative efforts like Dumas Rescue can make a greater difference than just a few individuals working alone, and those efforts can only work with the support of the community.
