PIKEVILLE — The U.S. Postal Service will hold a ribbon-cutting grand opening ceremony at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at its newest Post Office in Pikeville, located at 281 Thompson Road.
The new facility takes the place of the previous Post Office, which was razed to make way for Pikeville Commons – a development of retail spaces and residential living.
“We are excited about our new office and proud to have been the first business to open its doors in Pikeville Commons,” said Postmaster Misty Collins. “I’m confident our customers will be pleased with our new location and all its amenities.”
The new Post Office has two retail windows and a 24-hour lobby with 2,100 Post Office Boxes, including secure parcel lockers for customers to pick up packages at their convenience, and an enclosed dock. The Post Office retail window hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The Pikeville Post office delivers to approximately 12,600 businesses and residential addresses. In 2013, about 3.8 million letters and packages were delivered to Pikeville customers. Approximately 41 employees work out of the Pikeville Post office. The office serves ZIP Codes 41501, 41502, 41557, 41562 and 41571.
The Postal Service does not receive tax dollars for operating expenses; it relies entirely on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
