PRESTONSBURG — Communities Against Drug Addiction (CADA) met at their regularly scheduled monthly meeting in Prestonsburg on Tuesday to discuss events, upcoming and past, in their work to combat narcotics in our region.
So far in 2014, CADA has joined with Operation UNITE in support of several “Shoot Hoops, Not Drugs” programs that reached a total of nearly 1,000 kids for drug-free fun at schools in Laurel, Perry, Johnson, Boyd, and Harlan counties. They have directed hundreds of dollars into area programs that stress education and treatment about drug addiction, and helped fund new archery programs at several Floyd County Schools.
CADA is also helping plan the first annual Floyd County Recovery Celebration, an event dedicated to commending all the ways our community is recovering. The celebration is slated for September 20 at Archer Park, featuring live music and help for those struggling with addiction. Planned speakers include state Sen. Johnny Ray Turner, Floyd County Supt. Henry Webb, and several more.
For more information or to join the cause, you can visit CADA’s next scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at noon, at the Prestonsburg First Presbyterian Church.
