Eastern Kentucky residents looking for work in the commercial trucking industry will have the chance to apply and be interviewed for jobs at an upcoming career fair in Hazard.

Hiring Our Miners Everyday (H.O.M.E) will host the event on May 6 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Kentucky Career Center JobSight, 412 Roy Campbell Drive, Hazard.

Representatives from several employers will be on hand, including Averitt, JB Hunt, Schneider, and Summit Trucking.

Most jobs do not require relocation, and include a starting salary of $50,000 per year along with paid training and other benefits.

This career fair is for both experienced commercial drivers and those interested in a career in the trucking industry. Financial help in obtaining a commercial driver’s license (CDL) is available for clients enrolled in the H.O.M.E. program, while some companies can also offer assistance.

The career fair will begin with company presentations at 9 a.m., after which jobseekers can fill out applications and learn more about the companies on hand.

All applicants should bring copies of their resumes and proof of CDL if possible.

H.O.M.E. is a service of Eastern Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program, Inc. (EKCEP) in conjunction with the Kentucky Career Center JobSight network. EKCEP provides federally funded jobseeker and employer services in 23 counties in the Appalachian Kentucky coalfields.

H.O.M.E. helps out-of-work miners discover their skills, determine new career options, covers costs for them to enter classroom training, and helps place them into subsidized on-the-job training positions with area employers.

The program is also creating partnerships with employers and organizations across Kentucky and other states to help miners find and land jobs that allow them to sustain their standard of living and continue to use their skills. In these cases, H.O.M.E. can also provide limited relocation assistance to miners who accept out-of-area job opportunities.

The program is funded through a $5.2 million National Emergency Grant (NEG) from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration.
